Nick's at Rockaway Beach is the restaurant and the motel is called The Sea Breeze -- but to me, it's all just Nick's.  Amidst the ever-modernization of Pacifa beach areas (south of San Francisco), Nick's has remained the same at least since my first visit here in 1977.

The restaurant and bar hark back to 50's Las Vegas (sort of) and serves a very good prime rib.  Actually, Nick's was established in 1927 by Stalios Karagianis (a.k.a. Charles Gust) but the prievious buildings are long gone.

NICK'S & SEABREEZE HAVE BEEN SOLD!!!!!  A SINISTER COMPANY NAMED ROCKAWAY BEACH RESORT PARTNERS INTENDS TO TEAR BOTH PROPERTIES DOWN AND BUILD AN UP-SCALE RESORT.  LOCALS ESTIMATE THAT WE HAVE ONLY UNTIL THE END OF DECEMBER 2008 TO ENJOY NICK'S.....  BUT JUST AS WITH PATIENTS WITH A TERMINAL ILLNESS, SOMETIMES THE END COMES MORE SUDDENLY THAN ANTICIPATED!!!

While decorated as an evening venue, Nick's is open for all three meals, then late into the evening as well.  But the real reason this area is worthwhile remains the surf.  One isn't just near the ocean -- but on the ocean, with the cars in the parking lot often washed by waves coming over the modest seawall.  The motel rooms are just inland from the parking, so the sound of surf is tremendous all night long.
