FROM AN ALERT AND
HELPFUL READER:
Barbara from
University of Arkansas tells us, "Found the following note on
a website: www.schweigh.com/geoidxP.html Paraiso Springs, Monterey County,
California. Eastern Mojave Vegetation; Springs on the
west side of the south end of Sierra de Salinas. Name
given to Paraiso-Paloma quartz diorite in the Sierra de
Salinas. Occupied by the Paraiso Hot Springs
Resort. When we visited on November 22, 2003, there was
a locked gate and a Stop Work order from Monterey County dated
November 18, 2003 for damaging historic
buildings. Maybe that's got something to do with why
they are closed....don't know."
.....Just a flower, you say. But
no! This orchid grows at a special preserve founded in
1977 by the late actor, Raymond Burr. His gay partner
still manages the place: Garden of the Sleeping Giant
(not a reference to Ray's girth) north of Nadi; Viti Levu,
Fiji.
